Q. Who can compete in the CBO?

A. Students must be enrolled in a Canadian High School in Canada or in their first year of CGEP in Quebec. Students must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada. 

Q. Does the CBO competition have an experimental portfolio component?

A. In the past, the competition had an experimental portfolio component that students completed at their school, supervised by a teacher mentor. The current competition does not have that requirement. However, you are encouraged to complete and / or explore a set of laboratory activities and common techniques in preparation for the online competition. Q. What level of biology knowledge do I need to have to succesfully compete in the CBO and the IBO?

A. You should be familiar and competent in senior biology courses at the high school level and first year of college (e.g., AP level). You can find information about participation in the IBO at https://www.ibo-info.org/en/contest/participation.html

Q: Is there a recommended textbook for the CBO and IBO?

A: The recommended textbook for the Biology Olympiads is Campbell Biology, any edition after 2016
